A viral social media graphic falsely claims that Gachagua was threatened with deportation from the United States over alleged extortion

The viral image circulating online, claiming that Gachagua was threatened with deportation from the United States over the alleged extortion of Kenyans, is Fabricated. The post published on X @BlessBoniface account on the 14th of Aug has likewise been flagged as an Imposter post aimed at misleading the public by@thekenyatimes news media. The viral graphic stamped as a “Kenya Times” news headline claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was given the option of voluntary departure to avoid a formal deportation record by US immigration authorities.

Gachagua landed at JKIA on August 21, concluding a 43-day U.S. tour. This arrival came after the Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, earlier warned of security risks linked to his return and that the Police were put on standby. Gacagua was received by hundreds of supporters alongside DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala, Senators John Methu, Joe Nyutu, Karungo Thangwa, and other MPs who later clashed with the police, with reports suggesting security forces deployed water cannons and anti-riot units to contain the supporters.

This posts lack credible sourcing and cannot be independently verified. A review of credible and official sources in the US and Kenya reveals no evidence supporting such allegations or any official action taken against Gachagua by U.S. authorities. We, however, note that his arrival has been framed by different stakeholders in diverse ways. In this case, the narrative was likely intended to damage Gachagua's reputation.
